22 Little Clouds – fadenwerk

Und da ich gerade so schön dabei war: Als ich am Sonntag nach unserer Trauung ans Kofferpacken für unseren Wochenausflug nach Edinburgh denken musste, da war natürlich auch die Überlegung : „Was kommt denn an Gestrick mit?“ Es sollte was Unkompliziertes sein und ich wollte was aus selbst gesponnener Wolle machen. Die Wolle hatte ich ganz flugs ausgewählt: Handgefärbte und handgesponnene Lincoln Longwool und reines Alpaka- in meiner farblichen Komfortzone: Bunt. Möglichst mit pinks und lilas.

I ‚ve got the flow ( not the FLU): Sunday after our wedding I had to decide, what kind of project I would take with me on our trip to Edinburgh. I wanted something uncomplicated and I wanted it to be made from one of my handspuns. It was a quick choice. The wool ist hand dyed and hand spun Lincoln Longwool and 100% Alpaca, the balls both ranging in my colour-comfortzone ( pinks and lilacs) mixed because one of the yarns alone would not have sufficient yardage to knit Martina Behms‘ „22 Little Clouds“. I ‚m notoriously following the „Prairiegirls knit and spin“–podcast and there I got inspired by Prairiegirl Danies‘ „22 Litlle Clouds“ shown on Instagram. I really thought that Danies’s shawl was adorable and decided to knit it with handspun yarn und needles two sizes bigger than the original pattern requires. I wanted it to be BIG and FLUFFY therefore I decided against a sock yarn quality although this is the usual thread size Martina Behm develops her patterns for.

Nachdem ich ja nun bekennende Folgerin der Prairiegirls bin, die ich über Ihren Podcast http://prairiegirlsknitandspin.com/ kennengelernt habe, habe ich mich von Danies Foto auf Instagram inspirieren lassen, sie hatte nämlich die „22 Little Clouds“ von Martina Behm fertig. Ich fand das Tuch toll, stellte mir vor, dass es mit selbst gesponnenem Garn in zwei Nadelstärken dicker auch richtig wintertauglich sein und auch schnell gehen würde- und: tadaaaa, hier I proudly present:

Ich hab das Tuch am 18.02.2014 angenadelt und auf dem Rückflug am 22.02.2014 abgenadelt, dabei hatten wir eigentlich kaum Strickzeit außer abends im Hotel, wenn wir aus dem Pub kamen- hat aber gereicht. Ich hab dann festgestellt, dass mit dicken Nadelstärken so wie hier 6,5 so ein Tuch wirklich locker an zwei, drei Abenden zu schaffen ist. Da ich gewohnheitsmäßig jedoch mit Nadelstärken zwischen 1,75 und 3,5 stricke, war mir das nicht bewusst. Ich hab es nach unserer Heimkehr gewaschen und dann auf einem Handtuch ausgedrückt und zum Trocknen 3 Tage lang liegen gelassen- ich habe auf ein aktives Blocken verzichtet. Ist nicht nötig, da es sich nicht wirklich einrollt und das bißchen Einrollen der obenren Tuchkante prima mit der Rüschenborte (die mir etwas zu leicht ist, ehrlich gesagt) harmoniert und das Tuch sich prima tragen läßt.

I cast on at February 18^th and bound off during our flight back to Germany on February 22^nd . This is amazing because there was not that much knitting time as one can imagne ( there are lots of things to do in Edinburgh, especially when one stays for only 5 days), so I only knitted in the evenings, when we returned from the pub. I love pubs, the muskic there, the relaxed people and the food. But this is off topic and I plan to write about the wedding and the honeymoon some time later on in a separate article to avoid mixing it up with fibre content. This occaisional knitting was enough- beause with needlesize 6,5 your are REALLY quick. I wasn’t aware what a difference this would make, because my normal needle-range is between 1,75 and 3,5. I soaked it when we returned and let it sit for 3 days, only lightly arranged, but not blocked. IMHO it is not neccessary. It doesn’t roll in sooo badly and even this goes very nicely with the ruffled edges and it doesn’t make wearing it uncomfortable. For my taste, the is too little ruffling. But as it is, I like it .
